Doctoral Scholarship Application Instructions

The NBMBAA Atlanta Chapter awards scholarships to deserving doctoral students.  Applicants must demonstrate academic excellence, strong communication skills, and leadership ability.  All application materials must be received by 11pm eastern on May 15th,  2017.

Applicants must:

  • Be an African-American student
  • Be enrolled full-time (e.g., 12 semester hours) as a senior bachelor’s or graduate student in a business or management-related program in business, management, accountancy, or finance
  • Have and maintain a minimum 3.0 Grade Point Average
  • Complete Finalist Interview if selected as a finalist
  • Be a citizen of the United States
  • Attend Scholarship Awards Reception in November 2017
  • Be a member of NBMBAA Atlanta
  • Submit all application materials by 11pm eastern on May 15th,  2017.

Recipients receive:

  • Scholarship award of $2,500
  • Two complimentary Scholarship Awards Reception registrations

Recipients are required to:

  • Enroll full-time (e.g., 12 semester hours) in a business or management-related doctoral program in business, management, accountancy, or finance at one of the following metro-Atlanta AACSB-accredited universities:
    • Clark Atlanta University
    • Clayton State University
    • Emory University
    • Georgia Institute of Technology
    • Georgia State University
    • Kennesaw State University
    • Mercer University
    • University of Georgia
  • Agree to participate in limited public relations activities
  • Submit a personal biography
  • Share their story

DOCTORAL ESSAY:

Complete a 750-word essay on the following:

Essay Theme:
The theme for the Atlanta Chapter 2016 National Black MBA Association Scholarship Program is “The Q Factor:  Quality, A Leadership Paradigm.”

 

The NBMBAA believes that Quality is the one word that is synonymous with IT Factor in leadership.  There is no substitute for this key performance indicator.  All things equal, quality is often the determinant for competitive advantage.  Through the value chain of governance, business solutions, talent management, processes, and transformation; leaders that drive, embody, and account with quality, win.


Essay Question:
Leaders have used Total Quality Management (TQM) methodologies to gain competitive advantage in the marketplace.  Research one or more organization leaders (for example, leaders at Toyota, GE, Motorola) who have been successful using TQM methodologies.  Describe how one or more methodologies were used.  How was quality measured?  What was the impact to organizational performance?

RESUME:
Resume must be submitted to Scholarship@atlbmba.org.  Resumes must not exceed two (2) pages.

TRANSCRIPT(S):
Transcripts are required for all college coursework.  Please send an unofficial copy of your most recent transcript to Scholarship@atlbmba.org.  An official transcript may be requested if you are selected as a scholarship finalist.

PHOTOGRAPHS:
Submit a professional-looking headshot in jpg to Scholarship@atlbmba.org.  The image should be at least 1024 x 768.

LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION:

Professor must submit the recommendation letter to Scholarship@atlbmba.org.  The recommendation letter must be on university letterhead and include the professor’s name, phone number, and e-mail address.

DOCTORAL SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION AGREEMENT

The Doctoral Scholarship Application Agreement must be submitted to Scholarship@atlbmba.orgSend an e-mail request to Scholarship@atlbmba.org with Subject:  Request Doctoral Scholarship Application Agreement.  We will send the application agreement to you in e-mail.

Applicants are responsible for ensuring all required information is submitted.  Incomplete applications will not be evaluated.  All information received is considered confidential and is reviewed only by members of the NBMBAA Atlanta Chapter Scholarship Committee.  Send questions about the NBMBAA Atlanta Chapter Scholarship Program to Scholarship@atlbmba.org.
